Soul-Jazz / Hardbop

Gero Koerner 4tett
Gero Koerner 4tett live at SoundstudioN, Cologne

In this lineup the musicians of the Gero Koerner 4tett refer to the great times of Soul-Jazz and Hard bop of the late 1950s and 1960s and celebrate this music and it´s captivating energy. Godfathers of this sound are “Art Blakey and the Jazz Massengers“, „Charles Mingus“, the early „Herbie Hancock“ or „Stanley Turrentine“.

Yet after the first musical meeting Christine Corvisier (sax) and Gero Koerner (piano) wanted to expand their common activities. They didn´t need to search long for a band. Both directly liked to have Alex Morsey on Bass. His impulsive way of playing is a perfect addition to the free and energetic idea of the music Corvisier and Körner connects. On Drums they found Stefan Kremer. He´s German but lives in Belgium for decades and same long he is well known as sideman in the European Jazz scene.

Gero Koerner is one the few pianists who are familiar with classical music, jazz and pop/rock music and plays all styles same skillfully. In his music he likes to combine and merge all that styles on his own tasteful manner but he stays always conscious of the several musical traditions. He is a well known sideman and soloist in the German jazz scene and plays regularly concerts all over Germany and abroad also with pop/rock and classical music. He studied jazz piano at “Hochschule für Musik, Köln” with Frank Chastenier and Prof. John Taylor(GB) and got a profound classical piano education from Prof. Valeri Minenkov (Belarus).

The french saxophonist Christine Corvisier studied in Nice and Amsterdam. Afterwards she didn´t take long time to get a good reputation in the Netherland, Belgium, Luxemburg and French jazz scene. 2008 she won the price “Young Talent of Alpes Maritimes” and published her first album „Walking Around“. She went for further studies to New York and met there the leading saxophonists of our time.

Alex Morsey is with his superb soloing and on the spot playing one of the favorite bass players in the progressiv and experimental segment of the German jazz scene. Stefan Kremer on drums is a well known sideman all over Europe for decades. He was on tour already with Chet Baker and David Liebman. People like his spontaneous way of playing.
